From 1977 to 2013, inflation adjusted, per capita federal welfare spending has increased by 254%. However, there’s been no correspondingly dramatic reduction in poverty. In fact there’s been none. I’ll repeat that for effect - none. Zero. The rate of those living in poverty has pretty much remained the same since the War on Poverty was declared in 1964.
That’s criminal. It’s time to change the current strategy in fighting poverty. There are cheaper and more common sense approaches that do not take advantage of the poor or enable them to stay poor. If we really cared about poverty and especially for the poor themselves, then we would stop the madness.
