The goal is not to hire and promote people who simply have the right skill set. As important as that is, the goal is to recruit, hire, and promote those people who believe what you believe. Every staff person, but especially those in leadership of the organization, must be united with the “why” of the organization. They must believe in the same mission. They must see the same vision. The must share the same values. In other words, everyone must be in alignment with the motivation of the enterprise.
Don’t start with skills or even attitude. Start with motivation. The why of organizations never change. What they do can and will change with time and how they do it will most certainly change but the why does not.
