So, when I am presented with the claims of purity I become guarded and so should you. It’s been said that purity is a good mask for corruption because it discourages inquiry. Purity is the purveyor of sheep’s clothing. No one looks beyond innocence’s garment.
Likewise it could be said that perfection is a good mask for pride because it disguises reality. Perfection is the goal of the arrogant and the insecure indulge in its fantasy. But reality always prevails in the end.
Shall we never then, pursue purity or perfection or expect it from others? No. We should instead strive for excellence and expect it from others but that’s substantially different than pure perfection. For one, it’s achievable and another, excellence is good enough.
