The failure isn't that we fought the wrong enemy. We had the correct objective but the wrong motives. It focused on the appropriate battle grounds but it was a mistaken strategy. We had all the necessary resources but we turned them into the wrong weapons.
In short, the War on Poverty did three things. It produced a large and permanent subculture of poverty (what some call The Dependent Class). It created a generation of entitlement seekers of every race and income level. And it has turned us into a nation at war with itself. It is time to stop the folly.
