I think that we have taken a too literal definition of the term orphan. Of course, there is physical and legal abandonment. It’s this type we usually think of when we hear the word orphan. The world is full of these kinds of orphans. But there are other types of abandonment that result in different kinds of orphans: social orphans, emotional orphans, repeated and successive abandonment.
Despite the nature or cause of the abandonment, I believe all these types are covered in the Psalm 27:10 promise. But how exactly does the Lord take care of these orphans? According to James 1:27, through the pure and undefiled religion of His people. In other words, the Lord cares for the abandoned through His church (His people), which interestingly enough is described in Romans as His adopted children. Praise the Lord for His Spirit of Adoption.
Take Away: The Lord cares for the abandoned through His church (His people), which interestingly enough is described in Romans as His adopted children.
