I’m not speaking merely of the abandonment an orphan experiences. No, sometimes growing up with parents who are alive but absent, or parents who are present physically but distant emotionally, is much more damaging.
You will see the damage played out in the sexual promiscuity of girls looking for the love from a father they didn’t have. You’ll see the damage played out in the drug addiction of boys attempting to cover up the pain of not being accepted. These are just two examples of the “social orphans” who live and hurt among us.
Take Away: Rejection is the deepest and most lasting emotional wound a human being can ever suffer, especially for children.
