For many kids, even these descriptors don’t work. They have to get creative when speaking about the men in their lives. They say, “He’s like my real father.” Or they might introduce him with, “He’s been like a father to me.”
I’m extremely thankful for all those different types of fathers. I praise God for men who stand in the gap and become fathers to the fatherless, to be a dad to those who need one. While not the ideal, it’s a hundred times better than the child having no father figure at all. I’m convinced that to be a substitute father, is one of the greatest acts of kindness. The Bible calls it, “pure and undefiled religion.”
Take Away: I’m convinced that to be a substitute father, is one of the greatest acts of kindness.
