1. Stay in school and graduate. Statistics show that education increases the chance of prosperity - the more education the better.
2. Postpone having children until you are gainfully employed. This has beneficial effects for both the parent and the child.
3. When you do have children be certain that you are in a committed, long term, stable relationship. Single parenthood is one of the leading causes of poverty.
4. Stay away from addictive substances. They have the power to destroy any gains made by the first three decisions.
The common denominator for all four of these simple life decisions is the ability to delay gratification. Unfortunately, in a free and rich society, it is one of the hardest things a person has to learn.
