He once said something I thought was extraordinarily profound for a Hollywood celebrity who is synonymous with foolishness. He said, “Everybody should be rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of, so they can see it’s not the answer.” Wow! Wouldn’t that be a gift with eternal rewards?
His statement so perfectly falls in line with the theology of book of Ecclesiastes: vanity, vanity, all is vanity and striving after the wind. Solomon was rich and famous. He tried everything under the sun and said there were only two things of value - to be happy in your work and to do good. Everything else, he reported, was temporary and had no lasting value. In other words, having everything is not the answer.
