1. Put it down. Put down the phone, the computer, the ipod. Put down that novel your reading. Whatever “it” is that has absorbed your attention put it down.
2. Get off your bottom. Get off the couch. Get out of bed. Get out from behind that desk. Get out of the car. Wherever it is that you find your rear end planted – get up and get moving in the directions of your children.
3. Find your kids. Wherever they are, be there. Whatever they are doing, do it with them. Spend time with your children. Be engaged, really engaged, with what they are interested in. Talk to them, and more importantly, listen to them.
These are three incredibly simply steps to becoming the parent of the year. It doesn’t take a genius to become a great parent, but it does take action.
