There’s strong evidence that every dollar a state government spends on early childhood intervention, making sure infants and toddlers are safe, healthy, and nurtured, will save eight dollars later on remedial services that have fewer positive outcomes.
I’m also cognizant that I may owe my health and success today to the State of Tennessee. The fact that my mother was in state care during most of her pregnancy probably saved me from irrevocable harm. I was protected in the womb from drugs and alcohol than my mother would have used if she hadn’t been in custody. I thank God for all those who work so hard to protect children from harm.
Take Away: I thank God for all those who work so hard to protect children from harm.
