There are at least ten very good reasons we should be guarded about our own thoughts: 1. We all have blind spots. 2. We don’t stop to really think. 3. We fail to notice important details. 4. We have background biases. 5. We jump to conclusions. 6. We get trapped by categories. 7. We miss the big picture. 8. We see what we want to see. 9. We don’t have all the information. 10. We aren’t as smart as we think we are.
So, unless you are someone who can see everything clearly, know all things accurately, and are not bound to or biased by anything, it’s probably a good idea not to trust yourself.
Take Away: It’s true that we sometimes need to trust our gut but generally speaking we should not believe everything we think.
