CONTROL: It’s the opposite of chaos and children, especially vulnerable children, need it more than ever. Out of control atmospheres produce unruly children. Remember, we aren’t talking so much about the need for rules as we are about the need for order. Children must feel safe and be safe: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. There must be consistency and predictability in our work with children. It’s really about providing secure and stable environments.
We must be diligent in our efforts to be sure the adults in children’s ministry are safe and aren’t threatening in any way. If someone is unwilling to submit to a background check, or ongoing supervision, they have no business serving children. It has been my experience that people with good intentions have no problem with accountability.
Take Away: We must be diligent in our efforts to be sure the adults in children’s ministry are safe and aren’t threatening in any way.
