At Patrick Henry, we believe that children have both the basic human need and the God-given right to know without a doubt that they are loved, that they are wanted, that they are somebody and belong to somebody. Children thrive and prosper, we believe, only when they are secure in that knowledge and feel completely safe to be themselves, warts and all.
Secondly, kids will live “up” or “down” to our expectations, so expect more not less from them. But with those higher expectation give them the resources they need to meet them. With that said, there’s no simple way or easy answer that guarantees resilience in every child. Nonetheless, we can challenge ourselves to help every child develop the ability to negotiate their own challenges and to be more resilient, capable, and happier.
Take Away: Children are content when they know they are loved.
