We can empower our children by helping them to understand that life’s events are not purely random and meaningless. They need to know that most things that happen to them are the result of another individual’s choices and actions. They especially need to see the connection between their own behavior and the consequences of that behavior on other people.
Those who care for and work with children must learn that discipline is about teaching, not punishing or controlling. We must be committed to using discipline in ways that help children understand that their actions produce certain consequences.
Take Away: Children need to learn their actions produce certain consequences.
