Chivalry is a certain kind of attitude or way of thinking of men toward women (and children and the elderly) that produces various acts of kindness. When men give preference and consideration to the needs and comfort of women over their own needs and desires that is chivalry.
Surveys show that only one in seven men today will offer their seat to a woman on a train or bus. Over a third of men say they never assist mothers struggling with heavy items. The reason for this lack of what our grandparents thought of as common courtesy? Modern men fear offending modern women. They believe women will view their acts of kindness as chauvinistic. But surveys show only 7% of women view chivalrous acts as patronizing. Apparently the need and the desire for gallantry and graciousness is still very much alive.
So men, let’s bring chivalry back to life.
