There’s an old Chinese proverb which speaks to the need of every parent to teach their children early: “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago.” That reminds me of the biblical proverb, “Teach a child in the way they should go when they are young, when they are old they will not depart from it.”
The best time to plant wisdom in the heart of my children was twenty years ago. They’re adults now, and the direction of their life is pretty much set. It’s a great deal more difficult to straighten them out now. They will either stand tall, or fall under their own weight.
Take away: A seedling will grow in whatever direction you set it.
